Module One: Getting Started

Welcome to Champion Strategies Public Speaking workshop.

According to a survey by the Sunday Times of London, 41% of people list public speaking as their biggest fear. Forget small spaces, darkness, and spiders – standing up in front of a crowd and talking is far more terrifying for most people.

However, mastering this fear and getting comfortable speaking in public can be a great ego booster, not to mention a huge benefit to your career. This workshop will give you some valuable public speaking skills, including in-depth information on developing an engaging program and delivering your presentation with power.

Workshop Objectives




Research has consistently demonstrated that when clear goals are associated with learning that the learning occurs more easily and rapidly. With that in mind, let’s review our goals for today. 

Students will gain confidence and be prepared for any small group or larger group speaking situation. The pace, tonality, diction, inflection will be mastered. 

Using props, video aids, PowerPoint, audience members or other sources to give an effective speech will be mastered. The audience eye contact, movement across the stage or into the audience will be addressed. Any other support as needed will be discussed.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: 

Identify their audience

Create a basic outline

Organize their ideas

Flesh out their presentation

Find the right words

Prepare all the details

Overcome nervousness

Deliver a polished, professional speech

Handle questions and comments effectively


Pre-Assignment Review

The purpose of the pre-assignment is to get you thinking about the topic of Public Speaking. 

As a pre-assignment, think about the most effective presentation or speech you have ever heard. Keep it in mind during the day to help identify practical applications for the tools and techniques that we discuss.
